Kirsty Wark commenced her journalism career as a graduate researcher for the BBC Radio, Scotland, in 1976 after graduation. She worked for one year as a researcher before being promoted as the producer of Good Morning Scotland and current affairs programs on the BBC radio. Wark switched to television as a news anchor in 1982. She produced lunched time political agenda and current affairs called Current Accounts. She started hosting and anchoring the Seven Days and Right, Left, and Center programs on BBC Scotland. She also worked as an editor for the BBC Reporting Scotland. In 1982, Kirsty Wark was moved to the breakfast program, where she covered the Lockerbie disaster. She also presented the BBC Two Arts programs on the Late Show that was aired from 1990-1993 besides One Foot Heritage program.

In 2008, Kirsty Wark was relocated to BBC Four program The Book Quiz, where she replaced David Baddiel as a host.   She was also appointed to host a food Quiz Show named Question of Taste in 2011, where she worked for some time before getting additional roles.  In June 2006, Wark managed to interview the Nobel Prize-winning Harold Pinter. Kirsty Wark also made an appearance in the Doctor Who episode of the film The Poison Sky as a news anchor.  In the course of her job at BBC, Kirsty Wark has worked on different BBC Shows, The Late Show, The Great British Bake Off, The Politician Husband, among others.
