Jeff Mwaura Koinange well known as Jeff Koinange is a prominent Kenyan journalist and an award-winning news anchor for Citizen Television. He previously worked with CNN, NBC News, Reuters TV, KTN, ABC News and K24. He was a Logos Bureau Chief at CNN for about five years before becoming the Network’s Senior Africa Correspondent in Johannesburg. He is the known author of the book titled ‘Through My African Eyes.’ He currently hosts a country Radio Show on Nation FM every Sunday from 5.00 PM to 7.00 PM besides anchoring the JKL live, on Wednesday at 9:0 pm news at Citizen TV in Kenya.

Jeff Koinange was born on 7th January, 1966 from Kiambaa village in Kiambu county of Kenya. Every 7th  January of every year, he enjoys his birthday with family members and close friends together with workmates.

Jeff Koinange’s Family

Koinange is the youngest offspring of Fredrick Mbiyu Koinange. His grandfather was the Chief Koinange Wa Mbiyu who was from the Gikuyu tribe and he had married six wives. Jeff’s father fell in love with Hilda Wambuyi Ngoima long before the State of Emergency was declared, but even before he could pay her dowry, he headed to prison and detained. When Jeff’s mother was 28 years old, he died of brain hemorrhage. When Jeff’s father passed away, his mother had become responsible for Jeff and his three siblings – Hilda Wanjiru, Phyllis Wangui, Freddie Koinange.

Jeff Koinange Education

Jeff went for his secondary education in 1972 to 1974, at Hospital Hill School in Parklands. In 1975 he moved to St. Mary’s and did his A-level there. After high school, Jeff went to the College of Kingsborough Community in Brooklyn, New York, and studied a course on Broadcast Technology and Management. After college, Jeff got a scholarship for further studies at the New York Prestigious University. He graduated again in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism.

Jeff Koinange Career

In 1986, soon after high school graduation, Jeff was a flight attendant with Pan Am World Airways. He found out he had a talent for communication when working as an attendant. He later quit the airline job to pursue further studies in journalism. In 1998 he partnered with KTN News both as a news presenter and also as Reuter’s Correspondent.

He worked with Arise television in Johannesburg, South Africa from January to August 2013 and by September of the same year he went back to Kenya where he is currently employed as an East Africa Bureau Chief. 2013 Jeff Koinange Live on KTN TV from 10.00PM on Wednesdays and Thursdays all nights hosted the TALK SHOW.
